What Home Help can include

Practical support with everyday household jobs

Home Help focuses on light tasks that support day-to-day comfort and independence. It is provided by a Care Giver as part of an agreed, person-centred visit rather than as a commercial cleaning service.

01

Light cleaning and tidying

Vacuuming commonly used areas, wiping surfaces, light bathroom or kitchen cleaning and general tidying.

02

Laundry and bedding

Washing light clothing, changing bed linen, folding laundry and putting items away where agreed.

03

Shopping and errands

Making lists, shopping with the person, collecting agreed essentials or helping with an online order.

04

Everyday household tasks

Putting bins out, watering indoor plants, bringing in post and helping keep familiar spaces organised.

Your home, your way

Help should fit around how you like things done

We agree which tasks would make the biggest difference and how they should be approached. Your belongings, routines and preferences stay central throughout.

The aim is not to take over. It is to make everyday tasks easier while respecting your home, choices and independence.

Clear expectations

Light household help, with clear boundaries

Home Help focuses on manageable, everyday household tasks. Clear boundaries help protect the person, their home and the Care Giver while making sure the visit focuses on the jobs that genuinely help.

1

Light household tasks

Home Help focuses on everyday cleaning and tidying rather than specialist deep cleaning, mould treatment, carpet cleaning, biohazard work or professional decluttering.

2

Specialist work left to professionals

Electrical, plumbing, decorating, gardening and property-maintenance work require an appropriate tradesperson or specialist service.

3

Tasks completed safely

Care Givers do not move heavy furniture or undertake work that cannot be completed safely by one person using suitable household equipment.

4

Clear financial boundaries

Care Givers do not provide financial advice or independently manage bank accounts, bills or household finances.

Shopping, post and everyday errands

Practical help, with clear arrangements

Everyday organisation can be included in Home Help, but permission, responsibilities, purchases and money handling need to be agreed before the visit.

Care Givers provide the practical support recorded in the care plan. They raise concerns through the agreed route rather than independently resolving financial, legal or household matters.

Who Home Help may suit

An extra pair of hands, without losing independence

Light household tasks can become tiring or difficult long before someone needs extensive care. Home Help can begin with a few priorities and adapt as circumstances change.

Where agreed, a Care Giver can help check dates and organise food cupboards. Food is never thrown away without the person’s permission.

  • Someone finding household jobs tiring
  • A person with reduced mobility
  • Someone recovering after hospital or illness
  • A person living with arthritis or another condition affecting everyday tasks
  • Someone who would benefit from help with laundry or bedding
  • A person whose family lives further away
  • Someone who wants to stay involved but needs an extra pair of hands
  • Someone who wants a little help before everyday tasks become overwhelming

Every home is different. Our local team will discuss what would be useful and what can be included without pressure.

Ask us a question
What is Home Help?

Home Help is practical support with light household tasks that make everyday life at home feel more manageable. It can include light cleaning, laundry, bedding, shopping, post and other agreed jobs, all shaped around the person’s choices and routine.

What household tasks can a Care Giver do?

Agreed tasks may include vacuuming commonly used areas, wiping surfaces, light kitchen or bathroom cleaning, general tidying, changing bed linen, laundry, bins, indoor plants, shopping and bringing in post.

Is Home Help the same as a cleaning service?

No. Home Help includes light household tasks as part of a person-centred care visit. It is not a specialist domestic deep-cleaning, commercial cleaning or professional decluttering service.

Can Care Givers vacuum and clean bathrooms?

Yes. Light vacuuming and light cleaning of commonly used bathroom or kitchen areas may be included where the task, equipment and visit time are appropriate and it is recorded in the care plan.

Can you help with laundry and changing bedding?

Yes. A Care Giver can wash light clothing, fold laundry, put items away and change bed linen where these tasks can be completed safely within the agreed visit.

Can you help with shopping?

Yes. Shopping support may include making a list, shopping with the person, collecting agreed items or helping with an online order. Money handling, receipts, transport and substitutions are agreed in advance.

Can Care Givers collect prescriptions?

Prescription collection may be included where it has been agreed and responsibilities, transport and any payment arrangements are clear before the visit.

Can you help with post and paperwork?

Where agreed, a Care Giver can bring in post, help organise paperwork and identify letters or household tasks that may need attention. Post is opened or reviewed only with the person’s permission.

Can Care Givers help with bills or manage money?

Care Givers do not provide financial advice or independently manage bank accounts, bills or household finances. Any agreed handling of money for shopping follows Aurora’s policy and is recorded clearly.

Do I need to supply cleaning products and equipment?

The person normally provides suitable household cleaning products and equipment. We agree what will be used and check that it is safe and appropriate for the planned tasks.

Can Home Help be combined with personal care or meal preparation?

Yes. A visit may combine Home Help with meal preparation, companionship, a wellbeing check or agreed personal care, provided there is enough time and everything is included in the care plan.

How long and how often are Home Help visits?

Visit length and frequency are agreed around the person’s priorities, routine and the tasks that can be completed safely. Support may be regular or included within an existing Aurora care visit.

Where is Home Help available?

Our local team supports people across Worthing, Goring-by-Sea, Shoreham-by-Sea, Lancing, Steyning, Littlehampton, Rustington and nearby West Sussex communities.
