The right support for each night

Sleep-in care or waking night care?

We begin with a free conversation about the person’s routine, risks and how often they normally need help.

Occasional assistance

Sleep-in care

The Care Giver has a suitable place to sleep but is available if help is needed during the night.

  • Reassurance that someone is nearby
  • Help with occasional bathroom visits
  • Bedtime and morning routines included

Continuity from bedtime to breakfast

One shift may replace several separate care visits

Instead of arranging an evening call, a night-time welfare visit and a separate morning call, one longer overnight shift may be able to provide continuous support.

This can mean fewer people coming in and out of the home, less disruption and more freedom to follow a natural routine.

Why overnight care matters

Reassurance you can feel—all night long

Good overnight care protects independence as well as safety. Support is there when needed, while privacy, dignity and familiar routines remain central.

Safer nights

Support is already there for transfers, bathroom visits and unexpected concerns.

A familiar routine

Care fits around the person’s preferred bedtime and morning—not a rushed call time.

Fewer separate visits

One continuous shift may cover bedtime, overnight needs and the morning routine.

Rest for families

Loved ones can sleep knowing a trained Care Giver is close at hand.

Is overnight care suitable?

Support shaped around the person—not a standard package

Overnight care may help someone who lives with reduced mobility, dementia, continence needs, night-time anxiety or an increased risk of falls. It can also support recovery after hospital or give a family caregiver a much-needed break.

Rather than watching the clock and waiting for the next visit, your loved one knows that someone they trust is already there.

Ask us a question
What is the difference between sleep-in care and waking night care?

With sleep-in care, the Care Giver has a suitable place to sleep and is available when occasional help is needed. During a waking night, the Care Giver remains awake and available throughout the shift. We will recommend the right option after discussing how often support is needed.

What can an overnight Care Giver help with?

Support can include getting ready for bed, safe transfers, toileting and continence care, hydration, repositioning, reassurance, agreed medication support, quiet household tasks and help getting up and ready in the morning. Everything is agreed in the care plan.

Can overnight care replace evening and morning visits?

In some circumstances, yes. A single overnight shift may cover the evening routine, night-time assistance and morning support. This can reduce disruption and provide more flexibility, although suitability and cost depend on the person’s needs.

How long is an overnight care shift?

Aurora’s overnight shifts are usually arranged for 10–12 hours. The exact start and finish times are planned around the person’s normal bedtime, night-time needs and preferred morning routine.
